Romain de Tirtoff (November 23, 1892 – April 23, 1990) was a Russian-born French artist known best to the world by the pseudonym Erté, the French pronunciation of his initials, R.T. He was at the forefront of the Art Deco period fostering a style renowned for its elegance,sophistication, and superior style. Erté was a true “Renaissance Man”, displaying his ingenuity and excellence in a variety of fields,including fashion, sculpture, jewellery, graphic works, costume and set design for film, theatre, and opera.
